Backgrounder

Strong local communities are vital to a healthy and vibrant national economy. As we recover from the impact of COVID-19, the Government of Canada is stepping up efforts to support municipalities, as well as rural and Indigenous communities and organizations across the country. We understand every community has unique needs and we are working at the local level through Canada’s Regional Development Agencies, like FedNor, to support their economic development and business growth efforts.

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for the FedNor, today announced a FedNor investment of more than $4 million in 16 projects to help diversify and grow the economy, while helping to maximize the economic potential of Northern Ontario’s municipalities, as well as rural and Indigenous communities.
