Did you know that if recycled, aluminum cans are back on the shelf within 60 days on average? However, it has been proven that if not recycled, aluminum cans will sit in a landfill for 500 years before oxidization. Imagine if that can had been recycled how many times it could have been used over and over, as well as the amount of virgin resources that could have been saved.
Since the implementation of the recycling of cans in our community back in 2008, the percentage has grown from 10% to 35% of the population that participates in the program. We’ve seen a significant amount of progress since the collection has been changed from monthly to weekly. The municipality would like to thank everyone who participates in the program and encourages the rest of the community to please join in and help extend the lifespan of our current landfill; and of course keep our environment safe and clean.
Our children, grand-children, plus others long after us will thank us for thinking of the environment that they will enjoy once we are gone!
